All You Need to Know
LAURA JACOBS
Transgender and gender nonconforming people are more visible these days than ever before, yet still remain vulnerable. To engage constructively, providers need to understand current social issues and the latest trends within their community. This workshop offers the chance to develop your expertise around gender, identity, and marginalization through direct instruction as well as a complex case, also providing the opportunity to examine how our unexamined attitudes might impact our clients. You’ll discover:
- The legacy of gatekeeping, the WPATH Standards of Care, the therapeutic importance of informed-consent treatment philosophies, and how to apply evidence-based, affirmative best practices
- How to frame the exploration of gender as an exploration of identity, as well as how to adapt clinical skills for transgender and gender nonconforming people of all ages.
- How to address countertransference while fostering a nonjudgmental therapeutic environment in which your clients can feel safe examining questions of gender, dysphoria, and identity
Note: This workshop fulfills many state board requirements for training in cultural competency.
